Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SkyGolf SkyCaddie SX400 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (U744379PV)

This 3.8V 3750mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces part number U744379PV in the SkyGolf SkyCaddie SX400 handheld golf GPS. The SX400 displays yardages, hazard distances, and course maps during a round. Swapping this cell restores full function when the original no longer holds a charge through 18 holes.

  • SkyCaddie SX400 fit: The SX400 uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack at 3.8V nominal with a proprietary connector and BMS handshake tied to the unit's power management IC. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector pinout exactly — the BMS communicates correctly on power-up without triggering a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the SX400 platform. The BMS accepted the cell, reported state-of-charge accurately across the charge curve, and did not trip the low-voltage cutoff prematurely during GPS-active discharge.
  • First-power tip after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the SX400 on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before heading out. The unit performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix can take 5–10 minutes outdoors. Subsequent warm starts are under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the SX400

The SX400 scales back receiver sensitivity when cell voltage drops below a set threshold to reduce current draw and extend screen-on time. At reduced sensitivity, the unit may show a weaker satellite signal, causing yardage readings to jitter or update slowly. This is a firmware-level power decision, not a GPS hardware fault. Keeping the cell above 3.5V under load prevents the receiver from stepping down.

SX400 shuts off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

After a battery swap, the SX400's fuel gauge needs a full charge-to-discharge cycle to recalibrate its voltage-to-capacity mapping. Until that cycle completes, the unit's state-of-charge estimate runs ahead of actual cell voltage — the display still shows one bar when the cell voltage has already hit the cutoff threshold. The fix is one full charge from flat to 100% without interruption. After that conditioning cycle, the low-battery warning and shutoff threshold realign correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SkyCaddie SX400 is taking 8 minutes to find my location after fitting the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris and almanac data, forcing a cold start on next power-up. A cold start takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with clear sky view — the receiver is downloading satellite positioning data from scratch. Power the SX400 on outside before your round, wait for the fix to confirm, and every subsequent start that session will lock in under a minute.

My saved courses and round history disappeared after swapping the battery on the SX400 — can I get them back?

Some SX400 user data is held in volatile memory that loses state when main power is fully removed. Course maps downloaded via SkyGolf's sync tool are stored in non-volatile flash and survive a swap intact, but unsaved round stats or locally cached session data may be gone. Connect the SX400 to the SkyGolf device portal after the swap — it will re-sync course data and restore any cloud-backed round history tied to your account.

The SX400 is chewing through the new battery much faster during active navigation than it did on standby — what's causing it?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously at full draw — this is the highest-current state the SX400 operates in. Screen brightness is the single biggest variable you can control: dropping brightness by 50% meaningfully reduces the display's current draw without affecting GPS function. The GPS receiver itself draws a fixed load regardless of brightness setting, so managing the screen is the most effective way to stretch charge between rounds.
