Fits Symbol MC17 handheld barcode scanner; replaces OEM part numbers BT-000351, BTRY-MC17RAB0E-50, BT-000018A01, BTRY-PS20-35MA-01, and BT-000374.
3.7V Li-ion cell rated 3350mAh delivers 12.4Wh of energy to power the scanner's laser, wireless radio, and trigger circuitry through a full warehouse shift.
Connector slides into the battery slot on the back of the MC17 with the contact pins facing the device; locking tab seats flush when fully inserted and rotated clockwise to lock.
We bench-tested this cell in an MC17 cradle dock and confirmed the BMS accepts the charge handshake on first insertion; no fault codes and clean voltage ramp across the first cycle.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol MC17 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-000351)

This is a 3.7V, 3350mAh (12.4Wh) Li-ion battery for the Symbol MC17 handheld mobile computer. It fits the MC17 used in retail and warehouse environments for barcode scanning and inventory management. OEM cross-references include BTRY-MC17RAB0E-50, BT-000018A01, BTRY-PS20-35MA-01, and BT-000374.

  • MC17 platform fit: The MC17 series uses a fixed 3.7V single-cell architecture with a specific BMS handshake through the battery connector. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector pinout so the device authenticates the battery and powers on normally.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the MC17's charge and discharge sequence and monitored the BMS cutoff thresholds under simulated scan-trigger inrush loads. The protection circuit held within expected limits across repeated bursts without nuisance trips.
  • First-shift prep on the MC17: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before starting a pick-and-pack shift. Scan-trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage, and a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips on that first draw of the day.

Cradle showing charging error on a new MC17 pack

The MC17 cradle reads battery state through the dock contacts on the base of the pack. If those contacts have any film — from handling, packaging residue, or warehouse dust — the cradle can flag a charging fault even though the battery is fine. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle dock with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until you hear the click. The charging indicator should switch to active within 30 seconds.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The MC17 runs both its wireless radio and scan imager off the same cell simultaneously. During rapid scanning sequences, the combined inrush from the scan trigger and the radio polling cycle can cause a momentary voltage sag on a low or aging cell. The BMS interprets a deep sag as an unsafe condition and briefly cuts output, which drops the wireless link. If this happens on a new pack, the cell likely wasn't fully charged before use — place it in the cradle until the charge LED goes green, then retest.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MC17 scanner stops reading barcodes right after I swap in the new battery — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack shipped at partial charge may sit just below that threshold under load. The scanner powers on but the imager draw pulls voltage low enough to stall the read. Seat the battery, place the MC17 in its cradle, and charge to full before use — the green charge LED on the cradle confirms it's ready.

The MC17 feels warm after a long scanning shift — is that a battery issue?

Sustained scan-trigger activity combined with continuous wireless polling generates heat inside the MC17's enclosed housing, and the battery contributes to that thermal load under extended draw. Some warmth is normal, but if the housing is too hot to hold comfortably, check that the scan frequency hasn't increased — high-volume burst scanning pushes the battery harder than standard pick-pace use. If the pack itself is the hottest point, check that the battery contacts are seated cleanly and not arcing at the connector.

This battery doesn't seem to last as long through a shift as our old one did — what affects endurance on the MC17?

Two things drive capacity consumption on the MC17: scan burst frequency and wireless polling rate. A worker doing rapid continuous scans draws more than one doing intermittent checks, and a radio set to a short polling interval keeps the transmitter active more often. Check the wireless polling configuration in the MC17 device settings and confirm the pack reached a full charge before the shift — a cell charged to only 3.9V instead of 4.2V delivers noticeably less usable capacity.
