Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra RS5100 Ring Scanner — 3.85V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTRY-RS51-4MA01)
This 3.85V 730mAh Li-ion cell replaces the factory battery in the Zebra RS51, RS5100, RS5100 Ring Scanner, and RS5100 2D Bluetooth Ring Scanner. These are thumb-worn ring scanners used in pick-and-pack, receiving, and logistics operations. Swapping a degraded cell restores the scan trigger response and Bluetooth radio performance the device needs to keep up with shift demand.
- RS51 and RS5100 platform fit: All variants in this family — wired ring, 2D, and Bluetooth — share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers every variant listed above without adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack in an RS5100 cradle and verified the BMS negotiation completed without error codes. Charge acceptance was confirmed at full capacity, and the scan trigger draw did not trip the BMS protection threshold at the cell's lower state-of-charge.
- First-shift charge protocol for ring scanners: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before the first pick shift. The scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell sits near minimum charge — a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS cutoff on the first burst sequence of the day.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new RS5100 pack
The RS5100 cradle reads the battery contacts before beginning a charge cycle. If contact resistance is too high — from debris, oxidation, or residue on the gold pads — the dock reports a fault instead of charging. This is not a cell fault. Wipe the battery contacts and the cradle bay contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the error clears in most cases. If the error persists after cleaning, check cradle firmware, as some dock versions require a firmware update to accept newer BMS firmware on replacement packs.
Scanner dropping Bluetooth mid-shift during rapid scan bursts
The RS5100 runs both the Bluetooth radio and the imager from the same 3.85V cell. During rapid sequential scans, the combined inrush from the imager trigger and the radio transmit pulse can cause a brief voltage sag at the cell terminals. On a degraded or partially charged cell, this sag crosses the BMS low-voltage threshold and the radio stack resets to protect the cell. The fix is to keep the replacement cell above 40% state of charge during high-frequency scan runs. If drop-outs still occur on a fully charged new pack, check that the scanner's Bluetooth pairing table is not holding stale device entries that force repeated re-association and extra radio load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My RS5100 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The RS5100 imager draws a spike of current the moment the scan trigger fires, and if the replacement cell shipped with a low charge state, the BMS can throttle output before the imager reaches operating power. The result is a failed read or no laser at all — not a faulty cell. Seat the scanner in the cradle, run a full charge cycle to 4.35V, then retry. That resolves this in most cases without any further action.
The new battery gets noticeably warm after a few hours on the warehouse floor — is that normal?
Some warmth is expected on the RS5100 because the scanner housing is compact and encloses the cell, Bluetooth radio, and imager in a small volume with limited airflow. Sustained back-to-back scanning combined with an active Bluetooth connection generates continuous draw, and heat is the byproduct. If the pack is hot to the touch — not just warm — check whether the scanner is operating outside its rated ambient temperature range, as high ambient temperatures reduce the BMS's thermal headroom and accelerate heat buildup. Return the scanner to the cradle during any extended break to let the cell cool and partially top off the charge.
The replacement battery drains faster than expected compared to our old packs — what should we check first?
Scan burst frequency and Bluetooth polling interval together determine how fast this cell depletes — more scans per minute and shorter Bluetooth keep-alive intervals both increase average current draw significantly. Check the scanner's host application settings for polling rate, and confirm the device is paired to a nearby access point rather than roaming and re-associating across the floor, which forces repeated high-power radio transmissions. Also confirm the cell was fully charged before the first shift, since a partial first charge can cause the BMS to report a falsely low full-charge ceiling. Charge to 4.35V, run one full discharge cycle, and then compare shift endurance against your baseline.
