Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TCL A990 / C990 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CAB31P0000C1)
This is a 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion cell replacing OEM part CAB31P0000C1 in the TCL A990 and compatible models. It fits the A990, C990, A919, and A966 smartphones — all share the same physical footprint and voltage rail. Capacity figure comes from product specification: 1500mAh / 5.55Wh.
- A990 / C990 platform compatibility: These models run the same 3.7V battery rail with an identical connector pitch and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between these variants does not require firmware changes — the charge IC reads cell chemistry the same way across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the A990 board. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge IC ramped to CC/CV without triggering thermal cutoff or protocol rejection.
- Fuel gauge recalibration tip: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one full discharge-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve — running fast charge before that calibration pushes high current into an uncalibrated cell and can skew percentage readings for weeks.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on a freshly swapped cell
A new cell in an A990 can hit a voltage cliff under load before the fuel gauge reports critical. The modem radio and display draw sharp current spikes — if the cell voltage sags below roughly 3.4V under that load, the BMS trips and the phone cuts off, even though the percentage shown was still 20–30%. This is a calibration gap, not a faulty battery. Run one full charge-discharge cycle without fast charging to let the coulomb counter map the actual discharge curve of the new cell. After that cycle, the reported percentage will track real cell voltage far more accurately.
Phone will not power on after the battery sat discharged in storage
Li-ion cells stored below approximately 2.5V per cell trigger a BMS lockout — a protection circuit that cuts output to prevent further damage to the cell. The phone will not respond to the power button and may show no charging indicator for the first 10–20 minutes on the charger. This is the BMS trickle-recovery phase, not a dead battery. Leave the phone on a 5V/1A charger — not a fast charger — for 30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the cell recovers above 3.0V, the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my TCL A990 show 25% battery and then just switch off without warning?
This is a voltage cliff — the new cell's voltage drops sharply under the load of the modem or screen before the fuel gauge registers critical. The fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so the percentage readout lags behind actual cell voltage. Run one complete discharge down to auto-off, then charge fully to 100% with fast charging disabled. After that single calibration cycle, the reported percentage will track real cell voltage accurately.
Fast charging stopped working after I replaced the battery on my A990 — it only charges slowly now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC on the A990 sometimes defaults to standard 5V charging because the BMS on the new cell has not yet completed its handshake with the phone's USB-PD negotiation logic. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Complete one full slow charge to 100%, then unplug and restart the phone. Reconnect the fast charger — the USB-PD protocol should negotiate correctly from the second cycle onward.
The battery percentage on my TCL A990 keeps jumping around erratically — it jumps from 60% to 45% in seconds.
Erratic percentage jumps after a cell swap are caused by the fuel gauge IC recalibrating its coulomb counter against a new cell it has never seen before. The IC's stored discharge model does not match the new cell's actual impedance and voltage curve, so it corrects in large steps rather than smoothly. Discharge the phone fully until it powers off on its own, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% without removing the charger mid-cycle. That single full cycle gives the coulomb counter enough data to build an accurate model for the new cell.
