Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

TCL R1 / R2 / R3 Cordless Vacuum — 14.4V Ni-MH 3500mAh Replacement Battery
This is a 14.4V Ni-MH replacement battery rated at 3500mAh (50.4Wh) for the TCL R1, R2, and R3 cordless vacuum cleaners. It fits the existing battery compartment and connects to the same charging circuit as the original cell. Replace this when the original pack no longer holds a useful charge or fails to charge at all.
- R1, R2, and R3 compatibility: All three models run the same 14.4V voltage rail with an identical battery housing and connector pin layout. The BMS threshold across this range is consistent, so one replacement cell covers all three without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a TCL R1 unit. The BMS accepted the handshake on first connection, held voltage within spec under sustained motor load, and tripped overcurrent protection correctly when airflow was deliberately blocked.
- Dock charging behaviour on Ni-MH cells: Do not leave this vacuum sitting on the charging dock continuously. Ni-MH chemistry is sensitive to trickle charge over time — capacity fade accelerates significantly on cells that stay docked between every short use. Charge to full, then remove from the dock until the battery is depleted.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. When the motor encounters increased resistance — from a partially blocked filter or a heavy carpet load — it draws more current than rated. On a Ni-MH cell, elevated current draw causes an immediate voltage drop at the terminals, which the vacuum's motor controller reads as low battery. Cleaning the filter fully is the first fix. If sag persists on a clean filter, the cell itself may have degraded internal resistance, and replacement is the correct next step.
Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a few seconds
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. It happens when restricted airflow forces the motor to work harder, pulling current past the BMS protection threshold — the BMS shuts the circuit, then resets after the thermal or time delay clears. The motor itself is usually fine. Remove and clean the filter, check the dust container, and clear any blockage at the floor head. If cutouts continue on a clean, unblocked machine, measure resting cell voltage — a healthy Ni-MH pack at full charge should read at or above 15.6V across 13 cells.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TCL R1 loses suction halfway through a clean but the battery light still shows full — what's happening?
This is voltage sag under motor load, not a drained battery. A restricted filter forces the motor to draw more current, which drops terminal voltage on the Ni-MH cell even when the cell still has capacity. Clean the filter completely and clear any blockage in the floor head before assuming the battery is at fault. If sag continues on a fully cleared machine, check resting pack voltage — it should read at or above 15.6V after a full charge.
The TCL R2 motor shuts off for a few seconds then starts again on its own — is this the battery or the motor?
That's the BMS tripping on an overcurrent spike, not a motor failure. Sustained restricted airflow — blocked filter, full dust container, or a jammed floor head — pushes current draw past the BMS threshold, which cuts the circuit to protect the cell. The BMS resets after a short delay, which is why suction returns. Clear the full airflow path first; if the cutouts continue on a clean machine, the cell's internal resistance may have risen enough to trigger the trip under normal load, and replacement is the fix.
My TCL R3 battery fades noticeably after a few months even though I charge it regularly — did I get a bad cell?
Probably not a bad cell — most early-fade cases on Ni-MH cordless vacuums come from continuous dock charging. Leaving the vacuum plugged in between every short use exposes the cell to constant trickle charge, which degrades Ni-MH capacity faster than normal cycling. Charge to full, remove from the dock, and only recharge when the battery is depleted. If capacity does not recover after several proper charge-discharge cycles, the cell has degraded and needs replacement.
