Fits TomTom Go 300 and replaces OEM part number VF5.
3.7V 3000mAh lithium-ion cell restores full navigation runtime on your portable GPS unit.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell in a Go 300 unit; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault codes.
After installation, power the GPS fully on outdoors and acquire a satellite fix before active navigation — cold start after battery swap takes 5–10 minutes for first lock.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Go 300 / Go 500 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (VF5)

This is a 3.7V 3000mAh Li-ion cell using OEM part number VF5, fitting the TomTom Go 300, Go 400, Go 500, and Go 530 among other models in this navigator series. It restores portability to a GPS unit that no longer holds a useful charge. Voltage and capacity match the original cell exactly.

  • Go 300–530 series compatibility: These models share the same VF5 battery format, voltage rail, and connector layout. The BMS handshake across the range accepts this cell without error flags or charge faults.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Go 500 unit. The BMS accepted the cell cleanly, reached full charge without thermal event, and held voltage through a full navigation session without sag cutoff.
  • First satellite fix after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it run a cold-start acquisition. Full power removal clears the GPS receiver's almanac data, so the first fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once almanac data rebuilds.

GPS accuracy reduced when the battery runs low

Some TomTom Go units reduce RF receiver sensitivity at low state-of-charge to conserve power. When this kicks in, the unit may show a weaker satellite signal count or drift position slightly on the map. This is a firmware-level power saving decision, not a fault with the cell itself. Keeping the battery above 3.5V per cell under load prevents the unit from entering this reduced-sensitivity mode.

Device shuts off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

This happens when the battery gauge software is uncalibrated after a cell swap — the unit's fuel gauge still references voltage curves from the old, degraded cell. The shutdown voltage threshold gets hit before the on-screen indicator has time to show a meaningful warning. To recalibrate, run the unit on active navigation from a full charge down to auto-shutoff once, then charge fully without interruption. After one full cycle, the gauge maps correctly to the new cell's discharge curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom Go lost all my saved routes and favourites after I replaced the battery — is that permanent?

Full power removal wipes anything stored in battery-backed RAM, which includes saved routes and some POI lists on the Go series. Favourites tied to your TomTom account sync back automatically once the unit connects to TomTom Home or MyDrive. Routes you built manually and never synced are gone — export them to your PC before pulling the battery next time.

The Go 500 shuts off mid-navigation with no warning even though the battery looks newly charged — what's happening?

After a cell swap, the on-board fuel gauge is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, not the new one. It underestimates remaining capacity and hits the shutdown threshold before the battery icon drops to one bar. Run one full charge-to-auto-shutoff cycle on active navigation, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single calibration cycle realigns the gauge to the new cell's actual voltage curve.

Active navigation drains this battery noticeably faster than just leaving the Go 300 sitting on standby — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — this is normal draw difference. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously, keeps the display at full brightness, and processes map rendering in real time. Standby cuts the receiver to periodic pings and dims or blanks the screen. The combined load during live navigation is several times higher than standby draw. Use the car charger on long drives so the unit draws from the vehicle rather than depleting the cell.
