Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

Ni-MH cells under partial degradation show a voltage sag before the pack is actually depleted. The battery indicator reads state-of-charge, not voltage under load, so it can still show mid-range while suction has already fallen off. Clean the filter first; if suction recovers, the battery was not the problem.

Motor cutting out and then recovering on its own

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor works harder to maintain airflow and pulls current above the BMS threshold. The BMS cuts the circuit to protect the cells, then resets after a few seconds. The fix is to clear the filter restriction before replacing the battery. If cutouts continue with a clean filter and a new pack, check for a blockage in the nozzle or hose — restricted airflow is almost always the root cause.
