Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Vivo S12 Pro — 3.87V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (B-T3)
This is a 3.87V, 4050mAh (15.67Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Vivo S12 Pro, S12 Pro 5G, S12 Pro 5G 2022 Standard Edition, and V2163A. It replaces the original B-T3 cell when the existing battery shows capacity fade, unexpected shutdowns, or swelling. The dimensions are 83.75 x 61.45 x 4.50mm — confirm your device variant before installation.
- S12 Pro and V2163A compatibility: These models share the same B-T3 cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The fuel gauge IC on all variants reads the same cell ID — swapping in this cell triggers no lock-out or charge refusal on the main board.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge cycles and monitored BMS communication, charge IC response, and cutoff voltage. The cell held 3.87V nominal across load cycles and the BMS reported state-of-charge correctly after a full recalibration pass.
- First cycle after installation: Disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Running one slow cycle first lets the coulomb counter reset against the new cell before high-current charging starts.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the S12 Pro after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve of the degraded original cell. The new cell has a steeper voltage cliff at low charge states — the phone reads 25% but the cell voltage drops below the modem and display load threshold and the BMS trips. The OS sees a hard cutoff and logs it as a crash. One full discharge to automatic shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and clears the mismatch.
USB-PD fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement
On the first charge after installation, the charge IC may not receive a valid handshake from the new BMS and falls back to standard 5V charging. This is normal — the BMS on a fresh cell needs one complete cycle before it signals the charge IC to negotiate fast-charge protocols. Plug in with the stock charger, let the first charge complete without interruption, and fast charging will activate automatically on the second cycle. Do not use a third-party charger for this first cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Vivo S12 Pro powers off by itself around 25% after I put in the new battery — is the cell faulty?
The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC is still using the discharge curve it mapped for the worn-out original cell. When the new cell's voltage drops sharply under modem or screen load near the bottom of the charge range, the BMS trips before the OS percentage reaches zero. Run one full discharge — let the phone shut itself off — then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter to the new cell's curve and the shutdowns stop.
My S12 Pro shows the battery percentage jumping around erratically after the replacement — it went from 60% up to 74% without charging.
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against a cell it has never measured before. The coulomb counter loses accuracy when the reference cell changes, so percentage readings drift or jump while it builds a new state-of-charge map. It settles after two or three full discharge-charge cycles. Do not interrupt those cycles — partial charges during recalibration extend the drift period. After the third full cycle, percentage readings stabilise within 2–3%.
The S12 Pro gets noticeably warm near the battery area during the first charge on the replacement cell — is something wrong?
A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a cell that has been through several hundred cycles. The charge IC pushes current into a higher-resistance load on that first charge, and the extra energy dissipates as heat in the cell and charge circuit. This is normal on cycle one. The warmth reduces significantly by the second and third charge as cell impedance drops with initial cycling. If the phone stays hot past the third full charge cycle, check that the connector is fully seated and the cell is not pinched under the chassis.
