Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra WorkAbout Pro 4 / Pro G4 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 3300mAh Li-ion battery fits the Zebra WorkAbout Pro 4 and WorkAbout Pro G4 rugged handheld computers. These terminals are workhorses in warehouse, retail, and logistics environments — scanning barcodes, tracking inventory, and running wireless sessions across long shifts. When the original cell degrades, scan performance and wireless stability drop before the battery fully dies.

  • WorkAbout Pro 4 and G4 compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay geometry, voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers both generations without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through simulated scan-burst and wireless polling loads. The BMS held the correct charge and discharge thresholds across all test cycles, with no false low-voltage cutoffs under combined radio and imager draw.
  • First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack operations: After installing this pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before committing it to a shift. The scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell sits near minimum charge — a fully charged cell prevents BMS trips the first time the trigger is pulled at pace.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

WorkAbout Pro 4 cradles are sensitive to contact resistance at the battery terminals. Debris, oxidation, or an unseated pack can trigger a charging fault even when the battery itself is functional. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry cloth, then press the scanner firmly into the dock until it clicks. If the error clears within 30 seconds, contact resistance was the cause — not the battery.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

Back-to-back scanning combined with active wireless polling creates simultaneous inrush from both the imager and the radio. If the cell voltage sags below the BMS floor during that combined draw, the terminal can drop its wireless session to protect the circuit. This symptom is more common with a partially charged or aged pack. Charge the battery to 4.2V before starting a high-throughput shift to keep voltage headroom above the sag threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My WorkAbout Pro 4 stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped in the new battery — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack shipped at storage charge may sit too low to sustain it. Seat the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before scanning. Once the cell reaches 4.2V, the imager draws cleanly and the read failures stop.

The replacement battery feels warm after a full warehouse shift — is that a problem?

Some warmth is normal. The WorkAbout Pro 4 housing is compact, and sustained imager plus wireless draw generates heat that has nowhere to go. If the pack is hot to the touch rather than warm, check whether the wireless polling interval is set aggressively short — reducing it lowers the combined continuous load. A pack that stays at uncomfortable heat levels after adjusting settings should be removed and inspected before the next shift.

The new battery seems to run down faster than expected compared to our old packs at their best — what's contributing to that?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling together draw far more current than either does alone. High-density scanning sessions on a busy pick floor can accelerate discharge significantly compared to lighter use. Check whether the scanner's backlight timeout and wireless transmit power are set to their lowest practical values — both reduce continuous drain without affecting scan accuracy. If discharge rate still seems high after tuning those settings, log the number of scan cycles per shift to establish a real baseline rather than comparing against memory.
