Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NEC Versa AX / Versa Note Series — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A44 / 21-91026-50)

This is a 14.8V, 4400mAh (65.12Wh) Li-ion battery for the NEC Versa AX, Versa Note, and Versa Note ES notebook computers. It replaces OEM part numbers A44 and 21-91026-50. Fit these cells when the original pack no longer holds a charge or the laptop won't run on battery alone.

  • Versa AX and Versa Note compatibility: These models share the same 14.8V four-cell serial battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell pack covers both product lines without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on this cell with the Versa Note ES. The BMS accepted the full charge cycle, balanced cells correctly, and reported accurate state-of-charge to the OS fuel gauge by the second cycle.
  • Post-install discharge cycle on the Versa AX: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to the hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Why the Versa AX BIOS reports battery health as poor after a cell swap

The Versa AX BIOS stores battery health data in EEPROM tied to the original pack's charge history. When a new cell goes in, that stored data no longer matches the actual cell capacity, so the BIOS flags health as poor or unknown. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is a calibration mismatch. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the learn cycle. After that cycle, BIOS health reporting should return to normal.

Versa Note shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

If the laptop cuts out while the OS still shows 20–30% remaining, the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's voltage curve. The old curve data causes the gauge to misread remaining capacity, and the system hits the low-voltage cutoff before the percentage reaches zero. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by full charges with the laptop idle. After those calibration passes, the OS percentage reading will align with actual cell voltage, and shutdowns at false charge levels will stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Versa AX BIOS shows the new battery as "0% available (plugged in, charging)" and won't move — what's happening?

The BIOS is reading stale EEPROM data from the old pack and hasn't accepted the new cell's state-of-charge signal yet. Let the battery charge uninterrupted to 100%, then run a full discharge to hibernate cutoff. That sequence forces the BIOS learn cycle to reset against the new cell. After one complete cycle, the percentage reading will update correctly.

System info on my Versa Note shows the battery Wh rating as 48Wh, but the replacement cell is rated 65.12Wh — is the cell wrong?

The Wh value shown in Windows system info pulls from the EEPROM data written by the original OEM pack, not from the physical cell. The replacement cell is 65.12Wh as specced — the lower figure is leftover data from the old battery's embedded record. After one full learn cycle, the reported value will update to reflect the new cell's actual capacity.

The fuel gauge on my Versa Note ES jumps around wildly — 80% one minute, 45% the next — is the cell faulty?

The fuel gauge IC calibrates its readings against charge and discharge curves built up over multiple cycles. On a fresh cell, it has no reference curve yet, so it estimates erratically. Run three full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles with the laptop idle during charging. By the third cycle, the IC will have enough curve data to report a stable, accurate percentage.
