Fits Shark UV617, UV647H, and related UV sanitizing vacuums; replaces OEM part XB617UN.
8.4V Ni-MH at 3000mAh delivers steady voltage to the motor under suction load without sag dips.
Connector slides straight in with positive contact pins aligned; locking tab seats flush against the battery cavity.
We cycled this cell on a UV617 under filter-clean and filter-restricted conditions; BMS held steady until full discharge.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously — Ni-MH packs develop capacity fade under trickle charge; charge to full and remove the battery immediately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Shark UV617 Series — 8.4V Ni-MH 3000mAh Replacement Battery (XB617UN)

This is an 8.4V Ni-MH 3000mAh replacement battery for the Shark UV617 cordless vacuum. It fits the UV617, UV617R, UV647H, UV647HB, and additional models in the same series. OEM part numbers XB617UN and 1024FM both cross-reference to this cell configuration.

  • UV617 and UV647 series compatibility: These models share the same 8.4V Ni-MH cell stack, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between UV617 and UV647 variants does not require any adapter or firmware change — the charger circuit recognises the same cell signature.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full charge and discharge cycles on the UV617 platform. The BMS held stable under sustained motor load and tripped correctly on overcurrent, recovering without requiring a manual reset.
  • Dock charging behaviour on the UV617: Remove the vacuum from the charging dock once the battery reaches full charge. Ni-MH cells on continuous trickle charge develop capacity fade faster than those charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then pull it from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when motor draw spikes under a restricted airflow path — a blocked filter forces the motor to pull more current than the battery can sustain at rated voltage. The cell voltage sags under that load, and suction weakens even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. Clean or replace the foam and HEPA filters first. If suction recovers after the filter is cleared, the battery is not the cause.

Motor cuts out mid-clean and restarts after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. Sustained restricted suction — from a clogged filter or blocked nozzle — pushes current draw above the BMS cutoff threshold. The BMS disconnects the cell, the motor stops, and the circuit resets once current demand drops. Check the filter and nozzle for blockages before assuming the battery is faulty. After clearing the restriction, charge the battery to 8.4V and retest.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Shark UV617 loses suction well before the battery light turns red — is the battery going flat too quickly or is something else wrong?

A weak battery is rarely the first cause here. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw more current than rated, which pulls the cell voltage down under load — suction drops even though the indicator still reads mid-charge. Clean the foam pre-filter and HEPA filter, then retest. If suction recovers, the battery is fine; if it doesn't improve after cleaning, charge the cell to a full 8.4V and run it again.

The vacuum cuts out for a few seconds then restarts on its own while I'm using it — what triggers that?

That's the BMS tripping on overcurrent, not a failing cell. When airflow is restricted by a clogged filter or blocked nozzle, motor current spikes past the BMS cutoff threshold, the circuit disconnects, then resets once current demand falls. Clear the nozzle and filter first — that resolves this in most cases. If it still trips on a clean, unblocked machine, check that the battery is fully charged to 8.4V before each use.

I leave my UV617 on the charging dock between uses and the battery seems to hold less charge than it used to — is that normal?

Yes, and it's one of the most common causes of early capacity fade on Ni-MH packs. Continuous trickle charge on the dock slowly degrades the cells even when the vacuum isn't running. Charge the battery to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock and store it off the charger. Returning to charge-only-when-depleted cycles will slow further capacity loss from this point.
