Fits Curtis GPD430 GPS navigator; replaces OEM battery 3.7V Li-ion cell.
3.7V, 800mAh capacity delivers 2.96Wh — sufficient for field navigation sessions on active receiver mode.
Connector slides into vertical slot on GPD430 rear panel; no locking tab, friction fit only.
We bench-tested this cell in a GPD430 unit; BMS accepted charge at 0.5A without fault codes, voltage held stable at 4.2V peak.
After installing this battery, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire satellite fix before navigation — cold start after power interruption requires 5–10 minutes for first lock.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Curtis GPD430 GPS Navigator — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Curtis GPD430 and GPD 430 GPS portable navigator. It fits directly into the battery compartment and matches the original voltage rail. Capacity is 800mAh (2.96Wh) — identical to the factory specification.

  • GPD430 and GPD 430 GPS fit: Both model variants use the same battery compartment dimensions (47.90 × 44.10 × 5.55mm), the same 3.7V nominal voltage, and the same connector orientation — so one cell covers both designations without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a GPD430 unit. The BMS held the charge threshold correctly and the device powered on without flagging a low-voltage fault at startup.
  • First-fix satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPD430 on outdoors with a clear sky view and let it run through its cold start. A cold start after full power removal can take 5–10 minutes to acquire a fix — this is normal. Subsequent warm starts drop back to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping at low charge on the GPD430

Some portable GPS units reduce receiver sensitivity as cell voltage falls toward the low-voltage cutoff threshold. On the GPD430, this can show as a degraded position fix or a wider accuracy circle before the battery indicator shows critical. The receiver draws more current during active satellite tracking than in standby, which accelerates voltage sag on a weakened cell. If accuracy drops during navigation, check the battery voltage — below 3.5V under load is the point where sensitivity reduction typically begins.

GPD430 shutting off without a low-battery warning

This happens when the fuel gauge or voltage-threshold indicator loses calibration after a battery swap. The device's shutdown threshold is hit before the visual warning has a chance to trigger. To recalibrate the indicator, charge the new cell to full, then run the GPD430 through one complete discharge-to-shutdown cycle on active navigation. After one full cycle, the low-battery warning should appear at roughly 3.6V before the unit cuts out.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Curtis GPD430 lost all my saved routes after I put in the new battery — is that permanent?

Routes stored in battery-backed RAM are erased when power is fully removed from the unit — that's a hardware limitation of the GPD430, not a fault with the replacement cell. Saved POIs and route history are the most vulnerable data. Going forward, export or sync routes to a PC before any battery swap. The new battery will retain data normally once it's fitted and the unit has been powered on.

The GPD430 is taking 8–10 minutes to get a satellite fix after the battery swap — something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. After a full power interruption, the GPD430 performs a cold start — it has lost its cached almanac and ephemeris data and has to download fresh satellite data from scratch. This takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view and is normal after any battery replacement. Once the unit has completed one full cold start and cached the almanac, subsequent warm starts return to under a minute.

The GPD430 battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating versus just leaving it on standby — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously and keeps the display lit, which together draw significantly more current than standby. The 800mAh cell in this unit is sized for the original power envelope, so heavy use — backlight at full brightness, frequent route recalculation — will accelerate discharge compared to static standby. Reduce display brightness to its lowest usable setting during active navigation. That single change has the largest impact on discharge rate on this class of device.
