Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Golf Buddy PT4 / Platinum 4 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LI-F03-01)
This is a 3.7V, 2100mAh Li-ion cell that replaces part number LI-F03-01 in the Golf Buddy PT4 and Platinum 4 handheld golf GPS navigators. It also fits the DSC-GB600 and GB3-PT4 variants that share the same housing and connector. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds enough charge to complete a round.
- PT4 and Platinum 4 platform fit: These models share an identical battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the same cell covers all four listed model numbers without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a PT4 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, voltage regulation held steady across the charge curve, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage threshold.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the device on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before heading to the first tee. A full power interruption clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris cache, so first fix after a battery swap can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent power cycles return to a warm-start fix under a minute.
Golf Buddy PT4 shutting off without warning mid-round
The PT4 reads battery percentage from a fuel gauge calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A degraded or replaced cell can shift that curve enough that the device reports 20% remaining and then cuts off seconds later. The shut-off threshold is a hard voltage floor — when the cell drops below roughly 3.2V, the BMS disconnects before the display shows a low-battery alert. After fitting this replacement, run two full charge-to-discharge cycles on the course so the fuel gauge re-calibrates to the new cell's curve and percentage readings stabilise.
Saved courses and round data missing after battery replacement
The PT4 stores course data in flash memory, which is non-volatile and survives a battery swap. However, session state — current round in progress, hole position, and any unsaved score data — is held in RAM and is lost the moment power is removed. If a round was active when the old battery died, that session data is gone. Complete and save any active round before removing the battery, then sync to the Golf Buddy app to back up course data before the swap.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Golf Buddy PT4 still can't find satellites 20 minutes after putting in the new battery — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong with the hardware. Removing the battery wipes the GPS receiver's ephemeris data — the satellite timing tables it uses for a fast fix. Without that cache, the PT4 has to download fresh ephemeris data from scratch, which takes 5–15 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Stand outside away from buildings, leave the device powered on, and let it complete the cold start. Every subsequent power-on after that will lock in under a minute.
The PT4 is draining noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating holes compared to when it's just sitting in my bag on standby — is the battery faulty?
That difference is normal and expected. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full polling rate and keeps the backlit display on continuously — both are high-draw states. Standby drops the receiver into a low-power mode and dims or blanks the screen. Reduce display brightness to its lowest usable setting and enable the auto-backlight timeout in the PT4 settings menu — those two changes have the biggest impact on active-use drain.
The PT4 shows a strong battery percentage at the start of a round but drops to zero and shuts off by hole 12 — what's causing that?
The percentage display is calculated from a discharge curve stored in firmware. A new cell with a slightly different internal resistance profile can cause the fuel gauge to read optimistically in the upper charge range and then drop steeply before actual cut-off voltage is reached. Run two complete charge cycles — charge to 100%, use the device until it shuts off, recharge fully — and the gauge recalibrates to the new cell. After two cycles, the percentage reading across the round should track accurately.
