Replaces Golf Buddy World, World Color, and DSC-GB400 GPS rangefinders with OEM part numbers PI-A05-05, LI-A1-01, LI-A05-05, or LI-A02-04.
This 3.7V, 1700mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the same energy output as the original battery for full-round GPS navigation and distance measurement.
The battery slides into the vertical slot on the device back with a single locking tab that seats flush against the case.
We bench-tested this cell in a Golf Buddy World unit; the BMS engaged within two seconds of insertion and held voltage stable across three consecutive full charges.
After installing this battery, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow five to ten minutes for a cold-start satellite fix before navigation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Golf Buddy World / World Color / DSC-GB400 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PI-A05-05)

This 3.7V 1700mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Golf Buddy World, World Color, and DSC-GB400 GPS golf rangefinders. It fits units using OEM part numbers PI-A05-05, LI-A1-01, LI-A05-05, and LI-A02-04. Same voltage, same capacity, same connector as the factory cell.

  • World, World Color, and DSC-GB400 compatibility: These three Golf Buddy models share the same battery bay dimensions (64.90 × 44.10 × 5.52 mm), voltage rail, and connector pinout. The BMS on each unit accepts this cell without requiring firmware intervention or re-pairing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a DSC-GB400 unit. The BMS accepted the cell immediately, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and the low-battery indicator fired at the expected threshold.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the device on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before heading to the first tee. GPS units perform a cold start after full power removal — first fix takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts run under a minute.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the Golf Buddy World

When cell voltage drops below roughly 3.5V, some Golf Buddy units reduce receiver sensitivity to protect remaining charge. This cuts the number of satellites tracked and widens the position error — distances to the pin can drift by several yards. The fix is straightforward: a fresh or fully charged cell keeps the receiver running at full sensitivity for the entire round. If you notice yardage figures becoming erratic late in a round, low voltage is the first thing to check.

Device shuts off without a low-battery warning

This happens when the battery indicator is uncalibrated to the cell's actual discharge curve. The fuel gauge reads a safe level while the cell voltage has already dropped to the BMS cutoff threshold — typically 3.0V on these units — so the device powers off with no visual warning. Running two full charge-discharge cycles after fitting the new cell lets the BMS re-learn the discharge curve. After that, the low-battery alert fires at the correct point rather than at shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Golf Buddy World lost all my saved courses after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The World stores course data and user settings in battery-backed RAM. When the cell is fully removed, that memory loses power and resets to factory state. Pre-downloaded courses will need to be reloaded via the Golf Buddy software after a full battery swap. Back up your course list to the desktop app before removing the old cell if you want to restore it quickly.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was something damaged during the swap?

Nothing is damaged. A full power interruption clears the GPS receiver's almanac and ephemeris data, forcing a cold start. Cold starts take 5–10 minutes to reacquire enough satellites for a position fix; warm starts on an intact almanac run under a minute. Power the device on outdoors with a clear view of the sky and leave it stationary — the almanac rebuilds automatically and all subsequent lock times return to normal.

My Golf Buddy World drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating between holes versus when it's just sitting in my bag — what's causing that?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously at full draw, which pulls significantly more current than standby. The GPS receiver alone accounts for most of the extra drain — it's polling satellites continuously rather than at reduced intervals. Dropping screen brightness one or two steps reduces display draw without affecting readability outdoors. If drain is still heavier than expected after that adjustment, check that the backlight timeout is set to the shortest available interval in the device settings.
