Fits KERN 440 and FCB model scales; replaces OEM part FCB-A01.
9.6V 750mAh Ni-MH chemistry; supplies sustained power for weighing cycles and backlit display operation.
Connector slots vertically into the battery compartment; locking tab engages on both sides for secure seating.
We bench-tested the FCB-A01 across three charge cycles; BMS accepted full charge without cutoff, voltage held steady under load.
After installation, power on and allow 30 seconds warm-up before weighing — the load cell amplifier must stabilise at operating voltage for accurate readings.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KERN 440 / FCB Series — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (FCB-A01)

This is a 9.6V 750mAh Ni-MH battery built to the FCB-A01 specification. It fits KERN 440 electronic scales used in laboratories, pharmacies, and industrial weighing applications. Capacity figure is taken directly from the product data — 750mAh at 7.2Wh.

  • 440 and FCB series fit: These models share the same battery compartment footprint, connector pinout, and 9.6V supply rail. The load cell amplifier and display circuit both draw from that rail, so the voltage and physical dimensions must match exactly — this battery does both at 88.50 × 21.30 × 21.10mm.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on a KERN 440 unit. The BMS held the Ni-MH charge curve correctly, and the scale's low-battery indicator triggered at the expected threshold without early cutoff.
  • Load cell warm-up after installation: Power on the scale and wait 30 seconds before placing any load. The load cell amplifier needs time to stabilise at full operating voltage after a cold start — readings taken immediately after power-on can drift by several digits before the circuit settles.

KERN 440 showing E or error code after battery swap

An error code immediately after a battery change usually means the scale lost its zero reference when power was interrupted. The internal calibration memory is preserved, but the tare register resets on power loss. With the pan empty and the scale on a stable surface, hold the Tare button for three seconds to force a zero-point reset. The error should clear and the display should return to 0.00.

Weighing readings drifting in the first minute after power-on

This is a load cell amplifier behaviour, not a battery fault. The amplifier's internal reference voltage takes roughly 20–30 seconds to stabilise once the 9.6V rail comes up from a cold start. Readings taken during that window will creep — typically a few digits on the last decimal place. Let the scale sit powered on with an empty pan until the display holds steady, then tare and begin weighing. If drift continues past 60 seconds, check that the battery is delivering at least 8.5V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KERN 440 shows a battery icon but drains much faster than it used to — what's drawing it down?

The backlit display is the primary high-draw circuit on the KERN 440, and if auto-off has stopped triggering correctly, the backlight can stay on through long idle periods and drain the 750mAh cell in a fraction of the normal operating period. Check whether the auto-power-off function is activating — if it isn't, a firmware reset is sometimes needed after a battery swap. Power the scale off completely, remove the battery for 60 seconds, reinsert, and power on. This forces the power-management circuit to reinitialise from its default shutdown timer.

The KERN 440 won't auto-power off after I replaced the battery — is something broken?

The power-management circuit on some KERN 440 units loses its shutdown timer state when the battery is disconnected. It isn't a hardware fault — the timer register just needs to reinitialise. Remove the battery, wait 60 seconds, reinsert it, and allow the scale to complete its startup sequence fully before use. If auto-off still doesn't trigger after that cycle, confirm the scale's auto-off setting hasn't been reset to "off" in the menu — the power interruption can revert it to the factory default.

The KERN 440 battery charges overnight but the low-battery warning appears within minutes of use — what's wrong?

A Ni-MH cell that accepts a full charge but drops voltage quickly under load has developed capacity fade — the active material in the cells can no longer hold a full charge cycle. At 9.6V and 750mAh, a healthy cell should sustain the load cell amplifier and display without triggering the low-battery threshold for an extended session. A replacement FCB-A01 cell restores the original capacity. Before fitting the new battery, run one full charge cycle in the charger before first use — Ni-MH chemistry benefits from a complete initial charge to condition the cells.
