Fits KERN electronic scales with AUTO-OFF-Funktion; replaces OEM part number PCD-A04.
7.2V 750mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 5.4Wh to power precision weighing circuits and auto-shutoff logic.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with positive and negative terminals facing outward.
We bench-tested this cell in a KERN scale load-cell amplifier; BMS voltage stayed steady across discharge cycles.
After installation, power on and allow 30 seconds warm-up before weighing — the load cell amplifier stabilizes at operating voltage first.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KERN AUTO-OFF-Funktion — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (PCD-A04)

This is a 7.2V 750mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for KERN electronic scales fitted with the AUTO-OFF-Funktion power management system. It matches OEM part number PCD-A04 and replaces the factory cell when cycle life runs out. Dimensions are 89.20 × 31.80 × 10.80mm — confirm these against your existing pack before ordering.

  • AUTO-OFF-Funktion compatibility: KERN scales in this range share a common 7.2V Ni-MH battery format because the load cell amplifier and auto-shutoff circuit are tuned to that voltage rail. Swapping chemistry — to Li-ion for example — would shift the discharge curve and trigger premature shutoff warnings on the scale's power management circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through repeated charge and full-load discharge sequences on a KERN-class scale bench rig. The BMS handshake completed cleanly each time and the AUTO-OFF-Funktion triggered at the correct inactivity threshold without false cutoffs.
  • Load cell warm-up after swap: Power the scale on and wait 30 seconds before placing any load. The load cell amplifier needs to reach stable operating voltage after a battery change — readings taken immediately after power-on can drift by several digits until the circuit settles.

E code or error flag on screen after battery swap

KERN scales running the AUTO-OFF-Funktion platform often display an E or error code after a battery replacement because the internal zero reference is lost when power is fully interrupted. The load cell amplifier resets to an uncalibrated state. Press and hold the Tare button for three to five seconds with no load on the pan — this forces a zero-point recalibration. The error clears once the scale accepts the new zero and the output voltage from the load cell reads within the expected range, typically between 4.8V and 5.2V at rest.

Scale not triggering AUTO-OFF after battery replacement

If the scale no longer shuts itself off after the inactivity period, the power-management circuit sometimes loses its timing state when the battery is removed. This is a firmware-level register issue, not a fault with the replacement cell. Remove the battery, wait 60 seconds to allow capacitors to fully discharge, then refit the battery and power on. A full capacitor drain forces the power-management register to reinitialise and AUTO-OFF behaviour typically restores on the next inactivity cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KERN scale shows an E on the display right after I put the new battery in — what does that mean?

The E code appears because the scale's zero reference is wiped when power is cut during a battery swap. The load cell amplifier boots uncalibrated. Place nothing on the pan and hold the Tare button for three to five seconds until the display clears to zero.

The readings on my KERN scale keep drifting for the first minute after I switch it on with the new battery — is the battery faulty?

The battery is not the cause. The load cell amplifier in KERN AUTO-OFF-Funktion scales needs time to reach a stable supply voltage after any power interruption — drifting digits in the first 30 to 60 seconds is normal behaviour. Let the scale sit powered on with nothing on the pan for at least 30 seconds before taking a measurement, and the output will settle.

The new battery drains much faster than the original did — what's drawing it down?

Ni-MH cells deliver rated capacity only after two or three full charge-discharge cycles — a fresh cell straight from packaging can show lower endurance than a broken-in one. Also check whether the backlit display is set to stay on continuously; on KERN scales the backlight is the single highest current draw and can cut usable charge significantly compared to a dim or off setting. Run two full charge cycles before judging capacity.
