Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KERN MPC / MCC / MBC / MPD Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MBC-A08)
This is a 7.2V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery for KERN MPC, MCC, MBC, and MPD series portable electronic scales. It replaces OEM part numbers MBC-A08 and 137539. KERN scales run on mains power by default — this battery allows the unit to operate untethered during field weighing, transport, or wherever a socket isn't available.
- MPC, MCC, MBC, MPD platform compatibility: These KERN scale series share a common battery bay format and 7.2V supply rail. The BMS handshake and connector type are consistent across the group, which is why a single battery covers all listed variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on KERN-compatible test equipment. The BMS held voltage within spec across the full discharge curve, and the charge termination triggered cleanly without overrun.
- Load cell warm-up after power cycle: After fitting this battery and powering the scale on, wait 30 seconds before placing any weight on the pan. The load cell amplifier requires the 7.2V supply to stabilise before it outputs accurate readings — this applies every time the scale is cold-started from a battery swap or full power-off.
Scales showing an error code or "E" display after battery swap
An error or "E" on the display immediately after a battery change is almost always a zero-calibration fault, not a battery fault. When the scale loses power during a swap, the internal reference zero can shift. Hold the tare button for three to five seconds with nothing on the pan — most KERN MPC and MCC units will re-zero and clear the error code. If the display still shows an error, power the unit off completely, wait ten seconds, and power back on before repeating the tare hold.
Battery draining faster than expected in frequent-use environments
Backlit displays and any active wireless data transmission draw significantly more current than the basic weighing circuit alone. On KERN scales with backlight set to "always on," the additional draw can reduce usable charge noticeably compared to backlight-off operation. Set the backlight to auto-off in the scale's menu — typically a 10-second timeout — to recover capacity. If the battery still depletes within a short shift, check whether the scale is completing a full charge cycle: Ni-MH cells need to reach a proper charge termination point, which requires roughly 14.4Wh input at 7.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My KERN scale cleared to zero but the readings keep drifting for the first minute after I swap the battery — is that normal?
Yes, and it's the load cell amplifier, not the battery. The amplifier circuit needs the 7.2V supply to stabilise before it can resolve small weight differences accurately. Power the scale on, leave the pan empty, and wait a full 30 seconds before placing anything on it. After that warm-up window, readings should be consistent.
The scale powered on after fitting this battery but won't auto-shut-off anymore — it just stays on indefinitely.
The power-management circuit on KERN MPC and MCC series occasionally loses its auto-off timer state after a full power interruption during battery removal. Go into the scale's settings menu and re-confirm the auto-off interval — it may have reset to "disabled." If the menu shows a timeout is set but the scale still doesn't shut off, power the unit fully off, remove the battery for 60 seconds, refit it, and configure the auto-off setting again from cold.
The battery charged overnight but the scale is already showing low battery by mid-morning — what went wrong?
Ni-MH cells degrade when repeatedly shallow-cycled — charged from 70% rather than run down properly before recharging. If the previous battery was used this way for months, the charger's charge-termination habits may not have changed, but this replacement cell needs a full discharge-to-recharge cycle to condition it. Run the scale on battery until it prompts low battery, then charge fully uninterrupted. Check the charger output is delivering the correct termination voltage — a healthy charge on a 7.2V Ni-MH pack should peak at approximately 8.4–8.7V before tapering off.
