This 6V 2100mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original cell pack in KERN EW-N, EG-N, EG-A04, and EG-A06 electronic scales. It matches the OEM voltage and form factor, fitting the internal battery bay without modification. Capacity is 2100mAh (12.6Wh), identical to the factory specification.
- EW-N/EG-N platform compatibility: These models share the same internal voltage rail, connector pinout, and battery bay dimensions. All four variants accept the GPRHC21HN036 cell pack without adaptation — the BMS handshake is consistent across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on EG-N hardware. The BMS accepted the cell pack without fault codes, held the 6V rail steady under load, and passed zero-point calibration after each cycle.
- Post-install warm-up on the EW-N/EG-N: After fitting this battery, power the scale on and wait 30 seconds before placing any load. The load cell amplifier in these scales requires time to stabilise at operating voltage — weighing immediately after cold power-on produces readings outside the stated accuracy specification.
Error code on the EG-N display after a battery swap
KERN EG-N scales store their zero-reference in volatile memory. When power is interrupted — including during a battery change — that reference is lost. The scale throws an error or E code because it has no valid zero-point to work from. Hold the Tare button for three seconds after the unit powers up. This forces a fresh zero-calibration and clears the error without a service call.
Weighing readings drifting in the first minute after power-on
The load cell amplifier in these scales draws current to stabilise its internal reference voltage after a cold start. Until that reference settles — typically within 30 seconds — the output signal drifts, and readings shift by a small but measurable amount. This is not a battery fault. Place no load on the pan for 30 seconds after switching on, then tare the scale before use. Readings will stabilise to within the rated accuracy of ±0.01g once the amplifier reaches a steady operating state.

My KERN EG-N scale won't auto power-off after I swapped the battery — it just stays on
The power-management circuit on EG-N scales sometimes loses its shutdown timer state when the battery is disconnected. Remove the new battery, wait 60 seconds for residual charge to clear, then refit it and power the scale on normally. This forces the power-management circuit to reinitialise from firmware defaults. If the issue persists, check that the battery voltage reads at least 6.0V under load — a low cell voltage can prevent the shutdown logic from triggering.
The replacement battery drains noticeably faster than the original did
The backlit display on EW-N and EG-A04 models draws significantly more current than the basic segment display variants — often two to three times the standby draw. If backlight is set to "always on" in the scale's menu, switch it to the timed-off mode, which activates the backlight only during active weighing. Also confirm the battery is fully charged before comparing draw rates — Ni-MH cells need two to three full charge cycles after replacement before reaching rated capacity.
New battery fitted but the KERN EG-A06 scale reads accurately for a few minutes then drifts off-zero on its own
This is a thermal drift symptom, not a calibration fault. The load cell in the EG-A06 is sensitive to temperature change in the measurement environment — if the scale sits near an air vent or on a surface with fluctuating temperature, the zero-point shifts as the cell warms or cools. Move the scale to a thermally stable surface and allow 5 minutes acclimatisation before use. Re-tare the scale once it has reached ambient temperature, then confirm zero drift over 2 minutes with no load on the pan.
