Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KERN MPS / MBB / MTS / MCB Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (FOB-A08)

This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for KERN portable electronic scales. It fits the MPS, MBB, MTS, and MCB series, along with two additional compatible models. It directly replaces OEM part numbers FOB-A08 and FOB-A07.

  • MPS, MBB, MTS, and MCB platform compatibility: These KERN scale series share the same 7.2V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. That common architecture means one cell pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a KERN MPS unit. The BMS accepted the cell chemistry without fault codes, held voltage within the expected 7.2V operating band, and completed a full charge cycle cleanly.
  • Load cell warm-up after swap: After fitting this battery and powering on, wait 30 seconds before placing any weight on the platform. The load cell amplifier needs to stabilise at operating voltage first — weighing before that window can produce readings that are slightly off.

Why KERN scales show an E code after a battery replacement

An E or error code immediately after a battery swap is almost always a zero-point calibration fault, not a hardware failure. When power is cut and restored, the scale's internal reference loses its last tare zero. The fix is straightforward: place the empty pan on the scale and hold the Tare button for three to five seconds until the display resets to 0.000. If the error persists past that step, check that the battery is seated fully and the connector is locked — a loose contact causes voltage dips that trigger the same code.

Scale draining the new battery faster than the original

Backlit displays and any active wireless data transmission draw significantly more current than a basic numeric display. If your KERN unit has both features active simultaneously, the draw is higher than most users expect from a scale. Check the settings menu and disable wireless transmission when it is not needed — this is the single biggest drain reduction available. For storage between uses, power the scale off completely rather than relying on auto-shutoff, as the power-management circuit on some units continues a small background draw in standby.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KERN scale is showing a flashing E right after I put the new battery in — did I get the wrong battery?

The flashing E is a zero-calibration fault triggered by the power cycle, not a battery mismatch. Remove any weight from the platform, power the scale on, and hold the Tare button for three to five seconds until the display settles to 0.000. If it clears, the battery is fine. If the E returns, reseat the battery pack and confirm the connector is fully locked — voltage dips from a loose contact trigger the same fault.

The readings on my KERN scale are slightly off after the battery swap — it was accurate before.

The load cell amplifier needs time to reach a stable operating voltage after power is restored. If you weigh within the first 30 seconds of switching on, the amplifier has not fully settled and readings will drift by a small margin. Power the scale on, leave the platform empty, and wait 30 seconds before placing any load on it. Accuracy should return to its normal tolerance after that warm-up window.

My KERN scale is no longer switching off automatically after the battery replacement.

The auto-shutoff function on some KERN models is managed by a power-management circuit that can lose its timing reference after a full power loss. To reset it, power the scale completely off, leave it off for 60 seconds, then power it back on. This forces the firmware to reinitialise the shutdown timer. If auto-off still does not activate, navigate to the settings menu and confirm the auto-off interval is set to a non-zero value — a factory reset during the power cycle can return that setting to disabled.
