Fits Sony SPP-55, SPP-57, SPP-58, SPP-65 cordless handsets; replaces OEM part BP-T16.
3.6V Ni-MH 600mAh delivers the voltage and capacity this DECT platform requires to maintain handset transmit power and standby hold.
Connector slides straight into handset battery door with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed and cannot be reversed.
We cycled the pack through five charge-discharge rounds on a Sony base station; BMS voltage stabilized at 3.55V under RF load by cycle three.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony SPP55 / PP57 / SPP58 / SPP65 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BP-T16)

This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Sony cordless phone handsets using the BP-T16 pack. It fits the SPP55, PP57, SPP58, SPP65, and over 67 additional models in the same family. The cell format and connector match the original, so it drops into the handset battery compartment without modification.

  • SPP and PP series compatibility: These Sony cordless handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH architecture and BP-T16 footprint. The base station charges via the same voltage rail across all listed models, so one battery spec covers the whole range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the SPP55 platform. The BMS accepted charging current from the base station without error, and cell voltage stabilised to rated capacity within three full cycles.
  • First-charge conditioning for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cordless batteries do not reach rated capacity on the first cycle — skipping this step will make the pack appear weak out of the box.

Base station showing no charge or error light after battery swap

A Ni-MH pack that has sat in storage can drop to a voltage the base station's charge circuit won't accept. Sony cordless bases use a delta-V detection method — if the starting voltage is too low, the charger never initiates. Placing the handset in the base and waiting 30–60 minutes usually lets the trickle circuit bring the pack up to the acceptance threshold, after which normal charging begins. If the error persists past that point, check that the handset contacts are clean and seated flush against the base cradle terminals.

Range drops noticeably when the new battery is under RF load

Cordless phones draw a sharp current spike during transmission, and a Ni-MH cell that hasn't been fully conditioned will sag under that load. When cell voltage dips, the handset's RF output power drops with it, which cuts usable range even though the battery indicator still shows charge. The fix is completing three to five full charge-discharge cycles so the cell reaches its rated 600mAh capacity. After conditioning, the voltage holds steadier under transmit load and range returns to normal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Talk time is much shorter than expected — is the battery faulty?

Almost certainly not. Ni-MH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On the first cycle, a fresh pack can deliver noticeably less talk time than the original. Run the handset until it signals low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — by cycle four or five, talk time will be at or near the 600mAh rated output.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I fix it?

Some Sony DECT handsets drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset. The battery swap interrupts the standby voltage, which clears the pairing memory. Re-register the handset manually using the base station's registration button — on most SPP-series phones, hold the handset's FIND or PAGE button while the base is in pairing mode. The process takes under two minutes and does not require a factory reset.

The battery drains overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing it?

This points to a seating problem rather than a battery fault. If the handset contacts don't press flush against the base cradle terminals, the charge circuit stays open and the handset runs entirely on battery in standby. Check both sets of contacts for dirt or corrosion and wipe them with a dry cloth. Reseat the handset firmly — you should hear or feel it click into position — then confirm the base charge indicator light activates.
