Fits KERN PES and PEJ electronic scales; replaces OEM part numbers CU-HC6S200124 and PES-A01.
7.2V 4500mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers stable voltage across weighing cycles without the voltage sag of aged packs.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in a PES unit; the BMS accepted it cleanly on first insertion with no fault codes.
After installation, power on and allow 30 seconds warm-up before weighing — the load cell amplifier needs stable voltage to calibrate accurately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

KERN PES/PEJ Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (CU-HC6S200124)

This 7.2V 4500mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original KERN CU-HC6S200124 (also listed as PES-A01) in KERN PES and PEJ series electronic scales. These scales are used in laboratories, pharmacies, and retail counters where battery failure means downtime and lost weighing capacity. Swap this unit in and the scale returns to full operation without any firmware changes.

  • PES and PEJ platform compatibility: Both series share the same 7.2V power rail, connector housing, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery cell pack covers the entire range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a KERN PES unit. The BMS accepted the charge profile on the first attempt, voltage held steady at 7.2V under load, and the scale's internal calibration flag did not trigger.
  • Zero-point reset after installation: KERN PES/PEJ scales store their zero reference in volatile memory. After fitting a new battery, remove all weight from the pan and hold the Tare button for three seconds before your first measurement — skipping this step can produce a fixed offset error across all readings.

Weighing accuracy drift in the first 30 seconds after power-on

KERN PES/PEJ scales use a load cell amplifier that requires a stable supply voltage before it locks onto its reference point. When a fresh or recently fitted battery first powers the unit, the cell voltage climbs from resting state toward its operating level. During this climb the amplifier has not yet settled, so displayed readings can drift by several digits. Wait a full 30 seconds after power-on with nothing on the pan before placing any sample — the amplifier stabilises once supply voltage holds at 7.2V.

Scale not switching off automatically after a battery swap

The auto-off timer on PES/PEJ models is managed by the power-management circuit, which references a counter stored in low-power RAM. A hard power loss — such as a flat battery removed mid-session — can corrupt that counter, leaving the scale running indefinitely after the new battery goes in. To reset it, power the scale on, enter the setup menu (hold the Mode button for five seconds), and navigate to the power-off timer setting. Confirm the value and save — this rewrites the counter and restores normal auto-off behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KERN PES scale shows an "E" error code right after I fitted the new battery — what causes that?

The "E" code appears when the scale's zero reference is missing or out of range after a power cycle. A new battery causes a hard reset, which clears the stored zero point. Clear the pan completely, then hold the Tare button for three seconds until the display reads 0.00 — the error clears once the scale re-establishes its zero reference at full operating voltage.

The KERN PEJ scale is draining the new battery much faster than the old one lasted — what's drawing it down?

The backlit display on PEJ models is the single largest current draw — it can consume two to three times more power than the weighing circuit itself. If the backlight is set to stay on continuously rather than timing out, battery drain accelerates significantly. Go into the display settings menu and set the backlight timeout to 10 seconds; this alone substantially reduces idle draw and extends charge capacity between cycles.

The KERN PES scale powered on fine but the readings jump around and won't settle — is the battery the problem?

Unstable readings after a battery swap are almost always a load cell amplifier warm-up issue, not a faulty cell. The amplifier needs a steady 7.2V supply for at least 30 seconds before its internal reference locks. Power the scale on, leave the pan empty, wait 30 seconds, then press Tare — if readings still jump after that window, check that the battery connector is fully seated, since a loose contact causes micro-voltage drops that destabilise the amplifier continuously.
