Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pax S90 3G — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (S90-MW0-363-01EA)

This 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Pax S90 3G portable payment terminal. It fits the S90 3G only — confirm your model label before ordering. Capacity is 1800mAh (13.32Wh), matching the original specification.

  • S90 3G platform fit: The S90 3G uses a specific connector pinout and BMS handshake tied to the terminal's power management IC. This replacement uses the same contact configuration, so the terminal recognises the pack and allows normal boot without triggering a hardware fault.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge sequences on the S90 3G platform. The BMS negotiated correctly with the terminal's charge IC, and no overcurrent trips occurred during the receipt printer and wireless radio draw peaks.
  • First deployment tip: After fitting the battery, complete one full transaction cycle — including a receipt print — before putting the terminal into live service. The S90 3G maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs at least one complete power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator accurately.

Pax S90 3G rebooting mid-transaction after a battery swap

The S90 3G draws a sharp current spike when the receipt printer motor fires. On a new battery that hasn't completed its first full charge cycle, the BMS may read this spike as an overcurrent event and cut power momentarily. This resets the terminal mid-sale. The fix is straightforward: charge the replacement pack to 100% before the first transaction, then run one complete print cycle to let the BMS learn the load profile. After that conditioning step, mid-transaction reboots from printer spikes stop.

Terminal not completing PCI boot sequence after sitting unused

If the S90 3G has been stored without use for weeks or months, the battery may self-discharge below the terminal's minimum operating threshold — typically around 3.0V per cell. At that voltage, the PCI boot sequence stalls because the terminal won't advance past the security check on an undervoltage supply. Connect the terminal to its dock charger and leave it charging for at least 90 minutes before attempting to power on. Once the cells recover above 3.2V per cell, the boot sequence completes normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

The charge indicator on my Pax S90 3G has been stuck at 99% for over an hour — is something wrong with the new battery?

Nothing is wrong. When the charge IC detects a new cell, it enters top-off mode and trickle-charges the final percentage very slowly to avoid overcharging a fresh lithium pack. This can hold the indicator at 99% for 30–90 minutes before it flips to 100%. Leave the terminal on the dock and let it finish — once the charge IC exits top-off mode, the indicator updates and the battery is ready.

My S90 3G gets noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is that a battery fault?

Heat during high-volume periods is a load issue, not a battery fault. The S90 3G runs its display, wireless radio, and receipt printer simultaneously during peak use, and the combined draw generates heat in both the battery and the terminal's power management circuitry. The battery's BMS will throttle output if internal temperature exceeds safe limits, which can slow transaction processing. If the terminal stays warm even during idle periods, check that the dock contacts are clean and making full contact — a resistive connection forces the charge IC to work harder and generates extra heat.

After replacing the battery, my Pax S90 3G powers on but shuts off again within seconds — what's causing this?

A shutdown within seconds of powering on usually means the replacement cell voltage is too low for the terminal's BMS to accept a normal operating handshake. This happens when a battery has been stored discharged for an extended period before sale or installation. Place the terminal on its dock charger for at least 60 minutes without attempting to power it on. Once the cells recover to approximately 3.5V per cell, the BMS handshake completes and the terminal stays on through a full boot.
